Summer Sun Protection 101

Sunny Supplies and Trusty Tips

Sunscreen helps prevent sunburn and even decreases your risk of developing skin cancer! It’s a must-have on a hot summer day.

Tip: SPF 15 is the minimum recommendation and reapplying every two hours should provide the protection you need.

Hats are more than fashion pieces. They also conveniently protect your face, neck, and scalp from harmful rays, eliminating the need for sunscreen in those areas. Consider bringing a hat next time you step out for a day in the sun.

Sunglasses protect you in more ways than one. While they provide a clearer view in blindingly sunny weather, they also prevent things like cataracts and skin cancer. Minimizing sun exposure to the skin around your eyes also protects it from premature aging. Needless to say, it’s best to have a pair (or two!) on hand.

Tip: Make sure you find sunglasses that block UVB and UVA rays. All others don’t actually provide the protection your eyes need.

Sun protective clothing is a great option for times when you’d rather not lather on as much sunscreen. Light and loose clothing on a hot summer day will still feel cool while providing the coverage you need.
